Majority shareholder of Initiative Productions Limited & The Energy Works Inc., the production companies that produced all the following

Major Independent series production: Celebrity Cooks – Creator, and producer of 476 episodes that were broadcast on CBC Network, Global Network, ATV Network, syndication in Canada and syndication to several CBS owned and operated stations in the United States.

Do It For Yourself -Creator, producer, director and writer  of 260 episodes  that were broadcast on CBC Network, USA Network, PBS, Discovery Channel in the US and other US Syndication.

Additionally, Derek Smith has created and produced many commercials. Clients included Culligan, The Hearing Society and the Arts council of Ontario. He also created and produced television sports competitions which aired on Global TV, ESPN and TVO.

Derek being semi-retired has devoted himself to volunteer work with a variety of charitable organizations. Two years at a Pioneer Camp in Mukoka as a jack of all trades from building, putting computer systems together, creating artwork for Camp publications, T-Shirts, hats and other sundry design for printed material in addition to donating a camp video produced by him and his friends. He also helped in a downtown Toronto mission working with societies abandoned and outcasts. Currently living In a village near Ottawa he drives for Meals on Wheels.


Joe Battista
Producer, Consultant
Joe Battista’s television production and management experience spans a period of almost forty years in Canadian television production. During his thirty-two year tenure with CBC Television, Joe worked as Production Manager on a multitude of network and regional television productions in drama, variety, news and current affairs departments. Some of the productions include Beachcombers, The Wolfman Jack Show and The Rene Simard Show. He later held several senior management positions including Head of Business and Financial Affairs, CBC British Columbia for the last seven years of his tenure with CBC.

In 1997, Joe left CBC and started a production services and consultancy company, Quattro Communications. Joe has since worked as Line Producer on Double Exposure (69 half hour episodes) for The Comedy Network and CTV; Production Manager on The Life and Times of David McTaggart (a one hour special) for CBC Television; Dragnuts (13 half hour episodes) for The Comedy Network; Producer for several television pilots for CTV and The Comedy Network; Producer of Point Blank (13 half hour episodes) for the Comedy Network and Double Exposure The Special (a one hour year end special) for CBC Television and The Creative Native, 13 half-hour series for APTN.


Terry Deriger
Producer, Director, DOP, Editor
Terry started his career at one of the flagship CTV stations in Ottawa. Over the course of twenty years Terry wore many hats:  camera, technical producer, producer, DOP and sometimes writer when the need arose.

In 1995 he started his own production company called A B See productions and since then has been involved in many aspects of video production. From producing and editing a 61 part series for the A channel to producing numerous television spots for large corporations and mom and pop operations alike.

Terry is currently producing content in HD and SD using state of the cameras and editing facilities and also helping to develop numerous projects for broadcast and the web.
